The Walking Dead

We had a great weekend in St. George with Nick's family. Last night we watched the entire first season of The Walking Dead. It is crazy, and really good. It took me a while to get past the shooting of zombies, but it sucked us all in and we couldn't stop. I am looking forward to watching season 2 this week. Looks like I'm not going to get much else done.

Top: H&M, Pants: Nordstrom (BP), Necklace: Bohme Boutique, Earrings: F21

These pictures are edited in this way because I was having a real bad hair day. I'm not loving my current cut. I wanted a little more bangs, but he cut them really thick and it's just not flattering on me.

What Do You Think About?

Pants: H&M, Tank: Down East, Cardi: Target, Ring: Gift, Boots: Forever Young Shoes, Earrings: Thistles Boutique

Nick's dad told a great story that he had heard that I've been thinking a lot about. Here's the story....

Because of his great love for science, Henry Eyring encouraged each of his sons to major in physics as preparation for a career in science. It was while Hal was studying physics at the University of Utah that an exchange with his father marked one of those defining influences. He asked his father for help with a complex mathematical problem. “My father was at a blackboard we kept in the basement,” Elder Eyring recalls. “Suddenly he stopped. ‘Hal,’ he said, ‘we were working this same kind of problem a week ago. You don’t seem to understand it any better now than you did then. Haven’t you been working on it?’”

A little chagrined, Hal admitted he had not. “You don’t understand,” his father went on. “When you walk down the street, when you’re in the shower, when you don’t have to be thinking about anything else, isn’t this what you think about?”

“When I told him no,” Elder Eyring concludes, “my father paused. It was really a very tender and poignant moment, because I knew how much he loved me and how much he wanted me to be a scientist. Then he said, ‘Hal, I think you’d better get out of physics. You ought to find something that you love so much that when you don’t have to think about anything, that’s what you think about.’”

I loved this story. Nick and I have talked a lot about what both of us think about when we have nothing else going on.

When you realize what you think about that should lead you toward what you should be doing with your life.  If you're trying to force yourself to be interested in something you'll have a hard time really succeeding in that because you don't think about it!

I think this is such an important thing to teach people that are trying to figure out what to do with their lives.  It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks or what you think you "should" do, follow you heart and do what makes you happy.

Ninja

We've been wanting a really nice blender ever since we got married and we finally broke down and bought one. My BIL told us all about the Ninja, and we sampled a few things he'd made in his; guacamole, pina coladas, protein shakes, etc...

Nick and I have been trying to eat a little healthier lately and so we decided it was time for the Ninja.  We're going to try those green smoothies and lots of fruit concoctions too. We haven't gotten the chance to use it yet, but I'll let you know the delicious things we come up with. I mean it can mix everything from cookie dough to soup.

Those of you out there that make things in a blender, what's your favorite?

Downtown Date

Jacket: Boutique, Tank: Old Navy, Jeans: Nordstrom (BP), Boots: Forever Young Shoes

Nick and I are trying to enjoy where we live a little more. If we had it our way and money wasn't a thought, then we'd be out of town, traveling every weekend. But since money doesn't grow on trees we stick around our town more often that not. So last Saturday we went downtown and had ourselves a fun little date. We went to a hole in the wall restaurant that was delicious called Amore. Then we went to an art museum and felt very cultured. I think we are going to do this more often.

Remixing

I've said it before and I'm sayin it again, one of the best things about doing this blog has been that I've actually started to remix my clothes, wearing things with items I wouldn't have thought to put together before. So I'm going to start showing some of the different ways I've worn some of my clothes. Hopefully this will make you realize that you don't always need to go buy something new, you just need to try wearing something a different way.

Valentines

We had a pretty low key Valentines, it was perfect. Nick gave me the sweetest gift I've ever received.

This card (and a subscription to US Weekly)

It was heartfelt, homemade, and free! It was also hilarious.

One of my favorite parts, and I quote,

" Hopefully we die hand in hand on the same day like that old couple did in The Notebook. The one where that old lady loses her brain, but he loves her anyway. I want that for us except minus the brain thing."

Hilarious and sweet.

Two words that describe my husband perfectly.

EBEW: Pink & Red

I don't think I would have ever put pink and red together before this EBEW.

But, I am warming up to the idea. I need to get over those fashion "rules".

Feathers

I wore this to school last week and one of my students said, "You look like you should be going out dancing." True. Maybe it's a little much to wear to school. But, I love it, so I wore it. Besides, I really don't want to be categorized a teacher by the way I dress.
