The other night Nick and I were laying in bed talking about the different ways people speak. We were talking about my cute niece and the way she says her s'sssss.
Then all of a sudden it turned from laughing to seriousness when Nick said,
"I have to tell you something...."
" "Ohhhhh, greaaatttt....."
"I swore I'd never tell you."
"Oh no, what?!???"
"When I first met you I thought you had hearing aides."
.................................................................
"Wait, What? Are you being serious?"
"Yes I remember telling my friend when you e-mailed me on facebook after 8 years that I thought you had hearing aides the first time we talked on the bus."
"Babe, are you being serious right now??"
"Yes, I'm sorry, I thought I'd never tell you."
Then all I could do was laugh hysterically. Then I got real nervous and sat up, looked him in the eye, and said,
"DO YOU STILL THINK I TALK LIKE I HAVE HEARING AIDES!!!???"
"NO!! When I first talked to you on the phone, I could tell you didn't."
"PROMISE???"
"I swear."
We laughed for a solid 10 minutes and then when the silence came he layed another confession on me....
"OH, one more thing....You have a little lisp when you say your s'sss and it's the most adorable thing ever!"
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? WHAT ELSE?!!!? "
It's a darn good thing he said how adorable he thinks it is, because that did soften the blow a little.
He then explained that he doesn't really even notice it anymore and it happens when I'm talking really fast
(Which is probably every time sound comes out of my mouth.)
So then I start saying every word that has an S that I can think of to prove that I know how to say my s's properly!
I mean I'm a teacher for heaven's sake!
But you know what happened??? I realized I do say my s's a little lazily if the S is in the middle of the word, and it comes out like a lisp but you have to really listen for it. The word noticed is one I can hear it a little...
TOP THAT PEOPLE!!!
So after 29 years I realize that I have a slight, ever so slight, little, tiny, itty bitty, barely there, not really noticeable,
lisp....
So any of you that know me in real life, be honest, have you ever noticed it??
